Blocking, Muting & Reporting

InterlinedList gives you three ways to control who you interact with and to flag content for review: Block, Mute, and Report. Any signed-in user can use all three; they are not a paid feature. This page explains what each does, how they differ, and where to manage them.

You can reach these actions in two places:

  • On a message: click the menu in the bottom-right corner of any message.
  • On a profile: open someone's profile and use the Block button, or the ⋯ More menu next to it for Mute and Report.

You manage everyone you've blocked or muted from the Blocked & Muted panel in Settings.

Block vs. Mute: which should I use?

They sound similar but do very different things:

  • Block is strong and mutual. The other person disappears from your experience and you disappear from theirs.
  • Mute is soft and one-way. You stop seeing someone's posts, but nothing changes for them and they are never told.

Choose Block to fully cut ties with someone; choose Mute when you just want a quieter feed without confronting anyone.

Blocking someone

To block a user, open their profile and click Block, or use the menu on any of their messages and choose Block.

When you block someone:

  • Their posts leave your Home feed and your search results, and your posts leave theirs: you become invisible to each other.
  • Opening their profile, an individual message, or a thread link that involves them shows a "not found" page for both of you.
  • Neither of you can follow, reply to, react to (Dig), or re-share (push) the other.
  • Any existing follow between you is removed in both directions.

Blocking takes effect immediately. The blocked person is not sent a notification, though they may notice they can no longer see or interact with you.

Unblocking

To reverse a block, open the person's profile and click Unblock, or remove them from the Blocked & Muted list in Settings. Unblocking restores your ability to see and interact with each other, but it does not automatically restore a follow that the block removed; you'll each need to follow again if you want to.

Muting someone

To mute a user, open their profile, click ⋯ More, and choose Mute, or use the menu on one of their messages.

When you mute someone:

  • Their posts are hidden from your Home feed and your search results.
  • You stop getting notifications when they Dig, re-share, or mention you.

Muting is deliberately gentle. Unlike blocking, it does not hide their profile page or existing threads, it does not stop either of you from following or interacting, and the muted person is never notified: from their side, nothing changes.

Unmuting

To reverse a mute, open the person's profile, click ⋯ More, and choose Unmute, or remove them from the Blocked & Muted list in Settings.

Reporting a user or a message

Reporting flags something to our moderators for review. You can report either a whole account or one specific message.

  1. Open the menu on a message (or the ⋯ More menu on a profile) and choose Report user or Report message.
  2. Pick a reason: Spam, Harassment, Misinformation, Inappropriate, or Other.
  3. Optionally add a short detail to give our team context.
  4. Click Submit report.

You'll see a brief confirmation that the report was received. Reports are private and one-way: the person you report is not told, and there's no list of reports to manage. Reporting on its own does not block or mute anyone, so if you also want to stop seeing that person, block or mute them as well.

Managing who you've blocked or muted

Go to Settings and find the Blocked & Muted panel. It shows two lists:

  • Blocked users: click Unblock next to anyone to lift the block.
  • Muted users: click Unmute next to anyone to lift the mute.

If either list is empty, you'll see a note that you haven't blocked or muted anyone yet.

  • People: Follow, unfollow, and manage followers
  • Messages: Report a message from its options menu
  • Settings: Find the Blocked & Muted panel
  • Moderation API: Block, mute, and report programmatically
