AI Writing Assistance

AI writing assistance helps you draft, refine, and generate content across InterlinedList using your own AI provider key. It is a Subscriber feature, and you bring your own key from OpenAI, Anthropic (Claude), or Google Gemini. Every AI action shows you a preview first, and nothing is saved until you confirm it.

What you can do

  • Get writing help in the composer while drafting a message: rewrite, tighten, expand, fix grammar, turn a draft into a thread, or suggest tags.
  • Plan a message series or an article series from a short brief.
  • Generate a list from a description, with a ready-to-use structure and starter rows (Powered Templates).
  • Draft a full document from a topic, from one of your lists, from another document, or from a web page (Powered Document).

Before you start

AI features are turned on from the Integrations page, which you open from Settings. There you add your provider key and pick a default provider and model. Three things to know:

  • It is a Subscriber feature. You need an active subscription to run AI actions.
  • You bring your own key. InterlinedList does not include AI usage. Add a key from OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google Gemini. Your key is stored securely, used only to run your own requests, and is never shown back to you or shared.
  • There is a daily limit. To keep costs predictable, AI actions are capped per day per account, even though you use your own key. Both the preview and the confirmed action count toward the limit.

Writing Assistant in the composer

While composing a message, open the AI writing assistant control in the composer toolbar. It offers, on your current draft:

  • Rewrite — a cleaner version of the same message.
  • Tighten — a shorter, punchier version.
  • Expand — a longer version with more detail.
  • Fix grammar — corrections only, with your voice intact.
  • Make a thread — split a long draft into a numbered sequence of posts.
  • Suggest tags — recommended tags based on what you wrote.

Each result appears as a suggestion you can accept or discard. Text suggestions offer Replace draft or Use in draft; tag suggestions offer Add tags. Nothing changes in your composer until you choose one.

Message and article series

When your draft has enough to work from (about a sentence or two), the composer offers two planners:

  • Message Series turns your brief into a sequence of short, connected posts. Generating it creates a list of scheduled posts, spaced a few minutes apart, ready for you to review and adjust.
  • Article Series turns your brief into a set of related documents. Generating it creates a folder with one document per part, in order.

You review the plan before anything is created, and you can edit or delete the results afterward like any other list, scheduled post, or document.

Powered Templates for lists

When you create a new list, choose the Powered Templates tab. Describe the list you want (for example, "a reading list with title, author, status, and rating"), and AI drafts a complete list structure plus a few starter rows. Review it, then create the list. The tab only appears when you are a Subscriber with a provider key set up.

Powered Document

On the Documents page, use the Powered Document button to draft a full document. It has four modes:

  • A standalone article from a topic you describe.
  • Derived From List — a write-up based on one of your lists.
  • Derived From Article — a new document based on one of your existing documents.
  • Research URL — a document based on a web page you point it at.

For the derived and research modes, you choose the source list, document, or web address; AI reads it (only content you own, plus the page you name) and drafts from it. As always, you preview the draft before it is saved.

Preview, then confirm

Every AI action is a two-step flow: AI produces a preview first and writes nothing. You review it, edit if you want, and only then confirm to save. This means you are always in control of what actually lands in your lists, documents, and posts.

Your key, your data

Your provider key is encrypted at rest and used only to make your own AI requests. No endpoint ever returns your key, and InterlinedList does not read your prompts or the generated text back to any shared log. Removing a provider's key from the Integrations page turns off the AI actions that would use it.

  • Settings: add your provider key and choose a default provider and model on the Integrations page.
  • Messages: the composer where Writing Assistant and the series planners live.
  • Lists: where Powered Templates create structured data.
  • Documents: where Powered Document and Article Series write.
  • AI Integration (API): for developers building on the AI endpoints directly.
