Getting Started

Welcome to InterlinedList. This guide orients you to the main pages, the first things to do after signing up, and where each feature lives.

Home vs Dashboard

Home (click the home icon) shows the main feed: your messages plus all public messages from others. The left sidebar includes the message input and your lists tree. Use this to browse and post to the broader community.

Dashboard (click the chart icon) shows only your own messages in a table view. It also includes Data Management (links to Exports and Settings) and your profile summary. Use this to manage your content and access exports.

Use the top bar to move around:

  • Home: Main feed (your messages plus all public messages)
  • Dashboard: Your messages only, data management, profile
  • Lists: Create and manage your lists
  • Documents: Markdown notes and folders; create and edit in the browser
  • Organizations: Browse and join organizations
  • People: Manage followers, following, and follow requests

Click your profile icon in the top right for the dropdown menu:

  • Settings: Profile, preferences, security, and connected accounts
  • My Organizations: Organizations you belong to
  • Help: This documentation
  • Logout: Sign out

First steps

  1. Post a message. Use the input on the Home page (left sidebar) to share an update. Plain text posts are free for everyone. Attaching images or video (the gear icon) is a Subscriber feature.
  2. Create a list (Subscriber feature). Go to Lists and click "New List" to add your first list (local or GitHub-backed).
  3. Create a document (Subscriber feature). Open Documents, pick a folder, and write in the built-in editor.
  4. Follow people. Visit People or user profiles to follow others and see their messages in your feed.
  5. Watch lists. Visit another user's profile to see their public lists; click "Watch" or "Add self as watcher" to follow a list.
  6. Update your profile. Visit Settings to add a display name, avatar, and bio.

The Dashboard

The Dashboard is the hub for managing what you've posted, scheduled, and exported. It is organized into tiles alongside a profile summary and a tree of your lists:

  • Scheduled posts: Opens your scheduled posts, where you can edit or cancel anything you've queued for later
  • Exports: Opens the Exports page
  • Settings: Opens your account settings
  • Profile Information: A quick view of your username, display name, avatar, and bio, with a link to edit your profile
  • Lists tree: A navigable tree of your lists and list folders for quick access

Exports

Export your data (messages, lists, follows) from the Exports page. Reach it via Dashboard, then Exports, or the Exports link in the Data Management section.

Subscribers

Paid subscribers unlock additional features: attaching images and video to messages, cross-posting to Mastodon, Bluesky, and LinkedIn, and scheduling messages for future publication. Manage your subscription from Settings.

Other pages

A few pages sit outside the main feed, list, and document flow but are worth knowing about:

  • Help Center: This library of how-to articles. The sidebar lists every topic
  • Blog: Public posts about product updates and longer-form writing
  • Pricing: The public page describing the Free vs Subscriber feature split, monthly and annual prices, and the link into checkout
  • People: The hub for your followers, following, and pending follow requests
  • Clock: A full-screen analog clock for your location's timezone (requires browser location access)
  • End User License Agreement (EULA): The license terms for the InterlinedList iOS app; review it before installing the app

The Products menu in the top navigation lists the InterlinedList app plus a Synchronization Tools sub-menu; items marked (Coming Soon) are placeholders for related products.

  • Messages: Post updates, reply, and share
  • Lists: Organize structured data with custom fields
  • Settings: Customize your feed, notifications, and connected accounts
  • Account & Security: Email verification, passwords, and your subscription
